Department of Urology SLK Kliniken Heilbronn - Diseases of the Ureter

The European Centre for the laparoscopic treatment of ureter cancer

The ureter connects the kidney pelvis and bladder together and allows the urine to flow away between the kidneys and bladder.

The Departement of Urology Heilbronn represents one of the few centers in Europe, who offers the method of laparoscopic radical nephrourectomy to treat renal pelvis cancer and ureter cancer (laparoscopic nephroureterectomy).

A further treatment possibility includes endoscopic lasertherapy, if the tumor are not still superfacial in the upper urinary tract.

In special cases, we remove only a part of the ureter and implant a new ureter to the bladder remaining the renal function.

Chemotherapy is the standard treatment, when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. In this case we coloborate with our oncological department at the SLK Klinikum.

Malformations of the ureter

The ureter is often affected by malformations and vulnerable to infections. The reason is a disorder of the urine flow and those facts support stone formation. The spectrum of treatments at the Urology Heilbronn includes the pyeloplasty too, performed laparoscopically. Successful endoscopic operations used in reflux disease complements the conservative therapies in our department.

If kidney stones are going in the urinary tract, we call it ureteral calculi. Those can be fragmented successfully by the ESWL or with the Auriga XL Holmium Laser (LISL). Stone Treatment
