Department of Urology SLK Kliniken Heilbronn - High comfort to the patient

Minimally invasive surgery from the beginning

Prof. Rassweiler has been responsible for introducing the field of laparoscopic urology in Germany. He has more than twenty years of experience in the field of keyhole surgery, a laparoscopy with tiny cuts.

The Department of Urology SLK Kliniken Heilbronn, has established this minimally invasive surgical technique routinely into clinical practice and we mainly treat the diseases of the prostate, kidney and bladder with this gentle method.

As an international well-known hospital for keyhole surgery, we have improved and developed the surgical technique continuously. The Urology Heilbronn is one of the leading centers for urologic laparoscopy in Europe today. The clinical expertise is reflected in numerous published articles and international invitations as contributor and surgeon around the world.

Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) is the effective standard method of tumors which have not spread beyond the prostate. We need only a series of small incisions in the abdomen. Prof. Rassweiler was able to perform successfully laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and until now, over 2500 cases have been operated in our Department. Since 2009 we further apply the robotic removal of the prostate by the DaVinci ® system.

DaVinci ®

Since October 2009 our medical team also uses successfully the state of the art technical advances in the field of computer-assisted laparoscopy, the robotic DaVinci ® system.

We apply this high-definition and three-dimensional kind of laparoscopic urology for radical removal of the prostate as well as in malignant bladder and kidney tumors.

Keyhole surgery

The field of laparoscopic surgery as practised in our department is an unique treatment modality and an experience with enormous benefit for the patient. Previously this technique has been used more commonly for the removal of the gall bladder (i.e. laparoscopic cholecystectomy) by the general surgeons, and has been introduced into Urology in Germany by Prof. Rassweiler.

We use this specialised technique routinely for the removal of diseased kidneys and adrenals. Removal of prostate tumors can also be accomplished with great success using this technique.

The advantages of laparoscopy include finer surgical technique by video and robots assistance and magnification, reduced postoperative pain by avoiding large incisions and early rehabilitation as a result of the reduced pain at the site of the operation.

During surgery the blood loss is low, so we need only a few blood transfusion. The erectile nerves and the urethral stump will identified precisely by the excellent video monitor view and ensures a gentle reconstruction.

The monitor view allows a strong increase and the blood source will identified and removed immediately.

State of the art HD technique

We take advantage of the high-definition technology (HD) for the laparoscopic procedures. Comparable to HDTV this method is characterized by a perfect image resolution, an extended field of view and a finest colour quality.

Minimal Invasive Chirurgie Schaubild Endoscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic medical procedure used to assess the interior surfaces of an organ by inserting an instrument into the body via several aditus. The instrument not only provide an image for visual inspection, videophotography and a special light, but also enables taking biopsies and retrieval of foreign objects.
