Disorders of erectile function

The causes of erectile dysfunction are manifold. Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancers can damage erectile function and in so doing lead to impotence.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is successfully diagnosed at the Urology Clinic Heilbronn by the measurement of nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT). For detecting an intact erectile function, nocturnal erections are measured and recorded using a portable recording device. The measurement is similar to an ECG, whereby the patient wears the device for no more than two nights during an in-patient stay at the urology clinic. The evaluation of the findings is computerized and serves as the basis for a substantial analysis and targeted therapy.

Aging Male

Men from the age of 50 can also enter a a kind of menopause (climacteric virile). This is because the levels of their sex hormones (androgens) start to fall.

The first signs are fatigue, irritability, mood swings, internal unrest, impaired concentration, impotence and problems with sleeping.

Testosterone substitution, as advised by international recommendations and guidelines, is at the forefront of treatment options at the Department of Urology SLK Kliniken Heilbronn. Other options include prevention measures.

Induratio Penis Plastika

Penis curvature most often occurs in men between the ages of 45 and 60, and particularly amongst men with other connective tissue scarring and diabetics.

Induratio penis plastica (=IPP), also called Peyronie's disease, is a disorder of the penis where plaques form in the tunica albuginea. This leads to penile curvatures (deviations) during an erection of varying degree. A penis curvature of > 40° will normally cause a mechanical problem during sexual intercourse.

At the Urology Clinic of Heilbronn an IPP is treated non-invasively using a local shock wave therapy (ESWT). With simultaneous presence of IPP and erectile dysfunction (ED, impotence), the implantation of a penile prosthetic should be taken into consideration.

Refertilisation operations

In Germany, about 30,000 men a year submit themselves to a vasectomy. When circumstances change, about 7% of such patients desire to have children again. After a vasovasostomy, refertilization by natural means can be achieved in about 80% of all patients.

At the Department of Urology SLK Kliniken Heilbronn the most state-of-the-art surgical techniques are employed to carry out a vasovasotomy. With robotic DaVinci ® technology, a precise execution and transmission of movements can be implemented with a 'steady hand'.
